Grandpa at Huffines ~ Lewisville Texas

Huffines ~ Lewisville Texas

My Grandpa was King of Car Salesmen in the Dallas Area! He won every Award of Excellence that there was to give & I thought they were 'rich' because of it. Later in life the usual truth of what was reality left me in awe of his dedication & style in supporting his family of 5 beautiful girls! Even a set of Twin Girls in the mix. I thought it would be interesting for you guys to see one of his paycheck stubs ... it does bring some light on all those Butter Bean Dinners that I still love today LOL!

Grandma was always dressed in her pretty dresses with makeup on every day along with the girls. However, there are those family stories of the pinches Jonell (My Mom) would get at Denton High School from Aunt Wanda for 'stealing her petticoats' to wear under her poodle skirts! Mom was always 'the early bird & dressed to the hilt' as they say. So I'm guessing that there were some corners cut to get thru the week at times.

Anyway, I thought I'd share a few of Roy/Grandpa's Awards that I have inherited to 'take care of' for our family.
He was a respected man for sure.

My Grandpa ~
Date: 5/5/2009
Place: Karen, Grandpa, I35 & Grandpa's Car

I remember going down I35 on sunny day in Lewisville. If I remember right the speed limit back then was 85! So the speed of light pretty much when you're only about eight years old. We were going down the highway at breakneck speed when Grandpa asked me if I wanted to drive!
WOW!
Me?
Sure!
These adventures were usually only for Randy 'the oldest of Grandpa's grandkid's & a Boy!
I was thrilled at the honor of getting to actually drive Grandpa's New Car.

THIS WAS BIG.

Settling in Grandpa's lap he said "You've Got Her Karen! Now just hold it straight & you'll get us home this time"

As I sat in my Grandpa's lap he worked the gas peddle while I steered that big round steering wheel on the car. I can recall my long curly brown hair wisping in the wind while me & Grandpa giggled all the way back to Grandma. Grandma who had lunch all ready for us when we arrived. Grandma smiled & asked us "What have you two been up to today?" I just looked a Grandpa who was grinning as he pulled my chair out for me at the dinner table answered softly "Well Momma, we've been on a little drive." I'm hungry! This looks great Momma!"
Not a word of our adventure was spoken of that day.
I felt like Queeen of the Day in my Grandpa's eyes.
And that was a very special place to be.
