Grandpa at Huffines ~ Lewisville Texas

Huffines ~ Lewisville Texas

My Grandpa was King of Car Salesmen in the Dallas Area! He won every Award of Excellence that there was to give & I thought they were 'rich' because of it. Later in life the usual truth of what was reality left me in awe of his dedication & style in supporting his family of 5 beautiful girls! Even a set of Twin Girls in the mix. I thought it would be interesting for you guys to see one of his paycheck stubs ... it does bring some light on all those Butter Bean Dinners that I still love today LOL!

Grandma was always dressed in her pretty dresses with makeup on every day along with the girls. However, there are those family stories of the pinches Jonell (My Mom) would get at Denton High School from Aunt Wanda for 'stealing her petticoats' to wear under her poodle skirts! Mom was always 'the early bird & dressed to the hilt' as they say. So I'm guessing that there were some corners cut to get thru the week at times.

Anyway, I thought I'd share a few of Roy/Grandpa's Awards that I have inherited to 'take care of' for our family.
He was a respected man for sure.

My Grandpa ~
Date: 5/5/2009
Place: Karen, Grandpa, I35 & Grandpa's Car

I remember going down I35 on sunny day in Lewisville. If I remember right the speed limit back then was 85! So the speed of light pretty much when you're only about eight years old. We were going down the highway at breakneck speed when Grandpa asked me if I wanted to drive!
WOW!
Me?
Sure!
These adventures were usually only for Randy 'the oldest of Grandpa's grandkid's & a Boy!
I was thrilled at the honor of getting to actually drive Grandpa's New Car.

THIS WAS BIG.

Settling in Grandpa's lap he said "You've Got Her Karen! Now just hold it straight & you'll get us home this time"

As I sat in my Grandpa's lap he worked the gas peddle while I steered that big round steering wheel on the car. I can recall my long curly brown hair wisping in the wind while me & Grandpa giggled all the way back to Grandma. Grandma who had lunch all ready for us when we arrived. Grandma smiled & asked us "What have you two been up to today?" I just looked a Grandpa who was grinning as he pulled my chair out for me at the dinner table answered softly "Well Momma, we've been on a little drive." I'm hungry! This looks great Momma!"
Not a word of our adventure was spoken of that day.
I felt like Queeen of the Day in my Grandpa's eyes.
And that was a very special place to be.

Happy Festivus For The Rest Of Us!

We had such a wonderful Holiday or as we call it "Festivus" a funny plot from the Seinfeld Show. George's Dad refuses to get 'taken' in by the commercialism (is that a word?) of the Christmas Season. So we adopted it as our Holiday too! There is more to the story of why we really changed it, but it basically boils down to the pagan origins of Christmas/Winter Solstice & roots of the symbols that go with today's holiday season. As the years have past we've made a few adjustments because it's one of very few times during the year that our extended families all get together, have time off from work etc.etc. Plus we don't have the little ones running around all confused as to 'why we don't do all the 'stuff' their friends do' any more. That was challenging, but something I was truely committed to, sticking to my core beliefs of the facts as I found them to be.

ANYWAY,

Matthew, Kathy, Josh & Trevor were all with us here for an awesome Ribeye Steak & Shrimp Cocktail dinner. I'll have to admit that we are so far from 'main stream' families. I really love it that way, I recall when Kim & I had just had Matthew. We were talking about our parenting priorities & I told Kim then (1981) that I wanted my kid's to be 'free thinkers' 'being leaders not followers' 'making decisions of their own & seeing the results good or bad' ... boy did I fulfill that plan! lol! ANYWAY, in lock-step with my anti-main-stream living, Christmas & most other 'regular' days for most of the world, aren't what we do usually..lol! How many people stop & really ask the big question --"WHY?" Why do we 'do' that? "WHAT?" What does 'it' symbolize? If your answers are like mine were (which was, because we have always done it that way) You're in for a great surprise if you ever want to research some of it.

Today, Matthew called & said "Mom, Kathy & I were talking about our "Festivus" Dinner & we were wondering if you were cooking Turkey?"

HA! " No Way!" I said "But if that's what you guys want I'll cook a turkey for our dinner."

He laughed & said "We hate Turkey! And everywhere else they're serving TURKEY!" YYYyyyyuuUUUcccKKKKkkkkkkOOOOOoooo...

"I had a super-secret-menu planned, ALREADY!" neeeennnneerrrrrr- nnneennneeeerrrr-lol!

The dinner was wonderful & kept secret until everyone came for our "Festivus" family gathering.

In a nutshell, it was wonderful to sit at our dinner table surrounded by my 3 sons, my girl & turning to my right is My Man of 27 years! Still with me, So Cute, So Proud , So Amazing.

Kim made such a sweet toast to our boys & Kathy about how much we love them & are so proud to have Kathy at our table & apart of our family. We look at Matthew & our heart skips a beat to see him with his Bride both still beaming with love for eachother. Then there's Joshua with that sweet smile & loving eyes looking right back at me, finally getting a bit of relief from that past few turbulent, painfilled years ... I adore Josh & the young man he is, I feel loved by him everytime I hear his voice on the phone or look into those beautiful baby blues! Our Baby Trevor who has given me so many great times of laughing together, crying together & making me want to try something new again while fighting thru my fears to accomplish the goal. Trevor has a silent strong presence about himself, confident that the 'situation' will be okay. And their Brotherhood is to be envied by all onlookers! They are wonderful young men that are there for us & most importantly always there for eachother. Just as I always dreamt for them. Then dinner was served :o) after a few more toasts....which brings me to this.... WHY is it that I can NOT talk to my family without crying like a baby these days???? I just don't get it! I'm a snivvvvveeelllllinnngggg mussshhhyyyyy quivering voiced MESS when I want to tell them all what true joy each one brings to me & how much I love them. It, those feelings, are so deep & felt so raw by me sometimes-most times- who am I kidding it's that deep 24/7/365 :o) That to say it outloud makes me a melted mush ball in the middle of the floor. lol! Gosh those Farrer Guys & that Farrer lady are L.O.V.E.D.

I''m such a lucky lady huh!

Happy Festivus..or whatever you choose to celebrate...Just remember to give Thanks for the awesome Gift Of Love we all have from Jehovah himself, how else would I have such wonderful people in my world! *grin*

Adventures In Pittsburg!

Oh My Gosh! Have you ever had a day you wished you could put in a jar & save it for a rainy day...me too! This was one of them for sure. The blue country skies & sweet breeze that we had at our house was 'gravy on top' in having fun on a Saturday afternoon. The only missing ingredients were Josh & Kathy not being here with us today. Josh had just left a day or two before going back to his & Trev's place at Lake Palestine. I treasure these days so much! Music in the air coming from the Guys trucks parked under the big green trees, there is adventure in the breeze today!

I told Trevor that I just HAVE to ride 'Ramona' the horse it was a horse riding day that I couldn't miss! So, I grabbed Kim's Cowboy Hat off his head & headed off before I could second guess my abilities..lol! (of course, Kim had to pick up his jaw off the floor as he scrambled to get the camera) Trevor said 'Let's Go Momma!'.... with a little grin. I got a handful of saddle horn went to hoist this ol' girls 'HoopTeeDo' on to the back of this really big load bearing animal only to figure out that there is some things that should not be assumed as 'doable' HAHAHAHA!

Reaccessing our strategy of 'approach' & 'efforts', I made it!!

WOW!

Ramona is actually letting me do this!! Maybe the little talk Ramona & I had before really worked! I told Ramona that if we could do this we could go to town together...*wink*wink* She bought it & Trevor lead us off for a really awesome test drive.

I was a Cowgirl again....YeeHawwwww! If only for a minute or two, it was Freedom from my world defying fear & gravity just for a little while. I gave Trevor a huge 'Cowgirl' Hug & then went back into the house, proud of myself & cried like a baby at the 'joy' I felt at my small victory over 'myself' today.

Thanks Trevor you are so adorable, you gave your Momma a very special day!

Next Sunday~same place~same time~Bring a Brother ....
